Bally Takes To The Ice With A Wintery Curling Collection

Bally creative director Rhuigi Villaseñor has unveiled his first capsule collection for the Swiss luxury fashion house, following his debut Spring/Summer collection showcased in Milan this September. Looking to Bally’s Swiss heritage for inspiration, the capsule celebrates the sport of curling, which arrived in Switzerland during the late 19th century, brought to the country from Scotland, whose inhabitants have been curling stones across the ice since the 18th century.

A favourite winter pastime for those in the alpine country, curling is what inspired the Bally Curling Boot that has become a house staple since being worn by the Swiss Olympic team at Cortina d’Ampezzo in 1956. The après-ski silhouette is distinguished by its cocooning rubber sole and toe reinforced with Arctic Grip technology, with the shoe evolving into a versatile and hard-wearing shoe for all seasons.

Bally Curling sees the shoe reinvented as part of an all-encompassing curling collection, with the capsule fusing Swiss alpine tradition with Americana; specifically, cowboy and varsity design codes. The spirit of the American West is applied to the principles of winter sports, resulting in a capsule that traverses geographical boundaries.

Comprising transeasonal pieces and high-winter garments, Bally Curling tapes into the inherent luxury associated with après-ski living through mix-and-match ensembles that see Western detailing and mountaineering motifs rendered in refined natural materials like cashmere, shearling, and suede. The earthy colour palette spans autumnal hues to icy pastels, with both men’s and women’s designs comprising a head-to-toe wardrobe of fine-gauge roll-neck sweaters, elevated jogging pants, cashmere hoodies, sweater vests, and leg warmers.
